Living in a Jail

Can you imagine a normal family living in the world’s most famous jail, Alcatraz? This book will tell you about how they are living.

Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko is about a family who are working at Alcatraz. It shows how the main character, Moose tries to help his sister who is mentally five years old but physically sixteen. This story has both sad part and the happy part. This story made me think about the relationship between siblings. From this title, it sounds like very serious story but, that is not the case.

I really like the main character called Moose. He can not be relied on often but he is thinking deeply about each of the actions he would make. There is also a girl who is in almost the same situation with Moose and the girl is the second important person in this story.

This book is kind of complicated but after reading it, your relationship between friend and family would get closer.

  1. I have never heard of a family living in jail.
I wonder what it would be like living in jail.
If I have a chance to read this book, I would like to pay attention to the part where Moose takes care of his actions.
Also, I wonder how he saves his sister.
